The Tale of Burmecia's Founding.
"My parents used to tell me a tale when I was younger. This was, well, a REALLY long time ago, when I was obsessed with anything pertaining to dragons.
It was the tale of the very first dragoon knights, and their meeting with the Dread Wyrm, Midgardsormr.
Before Burmecia was ever built, there lied a small village. This village was constantly being plagued by dragons. They would attack the villagers, eat their livestock, and generally make life hell for anyone who lived in the valley.
One day after a hoard of drakes had completely ravaged the village, two warriors had said 'Enough is enough.' They packed up what little they had, and went on a journey to seek out the dread wyrm, Midgarsormr.
The two warriors, named Kain and Burme, left their family and loved ones behind, adamant on destroying the draconic beast known as Midgardormr in order to bring peace and prosperity to their village.
Even to go as far as to chase rumors and legends to seek the dread wyrm, they traveled across the Mist Continent. Tales of this mysterious dragon were sparsely ever true.
But even still, the people interviewed by them would always relay the terrors of this godlike being and his ability to control the draconic hivemind. They always advised against their joourney, claiming that it was an impossible task for any mortal.
It still did not deter them, though. If anything it fuelled them even further.
So finally, after years of travelling, they had found his whereabouts. Overseas on the Outer Continent, a summoner village had lead the two upon an ancient cave, known as the Labyrinth of Echoes.
Now, when you think of a cave, you probably think of something small... This cave was anything but that; it was a massive series of winding corridors, supposedly dug out by the great wyrm itself. So long and neverending, that it took nearly a month for the two to make their way to the end of it.
And when they finally found that end, they gaped at the majesty of the Dread Wyrm laying in wait. Coiled within the very mountain, he towered over the two as a person may tower over an insect.
Bahamut is regarded as the King of Dragons, but truly, Midgardsormr was the Grandfather of all.
'Why does thou seeketh me?' The wyrm asks the two warriors.
'We come for your retribution.' Kain says. 'For centuries your kin have plagued us.'
'We have come for a means to your end.' Burme says simply.
The dragon let out a low rumble of laughter, so powerful that it shakes the very mountain that they are within.
'Thou hath courage.' The dread wyrm replies. There is admiration in his voice, but also sorrow. 'Thine children hath grown unruly. Will thou be the catalyst to their own immortality? Slayeth me, and thou's journey will be at an end.'
And so the two brought out their polearms, ready to slay the gigantic beast lying in front of them.
But when they approach him, the wyrm is unmoving. To their surprise, he lies coiled on the ground passively, waiting for one of the two to strike him down with a fatal blow.
'Will you not fight back...?' Burme asks.
Midgardsormr does not answer. It simply closes its eyes.
'We will not fight one who is unwilling as you are.' Kain says.
The wyrm lets out another low growl of laughter, shaking the mountains once more.
'Thou displays the true warrior spirit.' Midgardsormr replies. 'I riseth to your occasion.'
Midgardsormr reared its head, and the two stepped back, once again ready to fight.
'I will not fight thou.' The dragon says, sensing the tension. 'Instead, I bestow upon thee the gift of the Dragoon.'
And with that, the two warriors were enveloped by a pure bright light. Brighter than anything they had ever seen before. It was the gift of Dragoon magic.
'Do not fear this gift. A dragon's word is its bond." The dread wyrm stated. 'Useth this gift to protect your own mortal kin.'
'What of your own children?' Burme asks the dragon curiously.
His only reply is,'Protect mine own from losing sight. Complacency blinds them like no other.'"
